Frequently asked questions

Fire safety refers to the measures that are taken to prevent fires, minimize their damage, and ensure the safety of people and property in the event of a fire.

You can prevent fires by taking steps such as keeping flammable materials away from heat sources, not leaving cooking or heating appliances unattended, and ensuring that electrical appliances are in good condition.

If there is a fire, the first thing you should do is evacuate the building as quickly and safely as possible. If you can, alert others to the fire and activate the fire alarm on your way out. Do not attempt to put out the fire yourself unless you have been trained to do so. Call 112 and tell them exact address.

Fire drills should be conducted at least once every six months in residential buildings and commercial establishments. Schools and healthcare facilities may need to conduct them more frequently.

The type of fire extinguisher you should use depends on the type of fire. There are five classes of fires, and each requires a different type of extinguisher. Class A fires involve ordinary combustibles such as wood and paper, Class B fires involve flammable liquids, Class C fires involve electrical equipment, Class D fires involve flammable metals, and Class K fires involve cooking oils and fats.
